ETHIC

We own nothing, but we have everything

Philosophy

“We own nothing, but we have everything.”

The above quote was taken from Dayak tribe in Kalimantan when it comes to the word Kaleka, the communal food forest.

Kaleka is a traditional ancient agroforestry system that is still in practice up to date. Kaleka is also a belief system in which people believes that plants, animals, and human positions in the nature are equal. Therefore human needs to acknowledge the needs of plants and animals in their lives.

Because of this believe, it is forbidden to cutdown plants or hunt animal without a purpose that needs to be consulted with the elders.

In Kaleka, people own nothing but they have everything.
